AVG Antivirus
AVG Free Edition is the well-known anti-virus protection tool. AVG is available
to home users for the life of the product!
Virus database updates are available for the lifetime of the product.
AVG should be set, when installing, to do a daily scan. This can be turned off in needed and will scan again the next day.
It will update itself on a daily basis (when your computer is connected to the
internet) and it will scan your computer once a day, when it is first booted
up.
You can do a manual full scan with AVG or scan a single file you have just
downloaded.
Open up the AVG Test Centre and click the "Scan
Computer" button to do a full scan
or "Scan Selected File" then navigate to the specific file you want
to check.
If AVG detects a virus it will ask you what to do with it. It will give you
the option to Ignore - DONT do this, The other options are
Heal the File or Send File to Virus Vault. Choose either of these options.
You can also check for updates manually by right clicking the coloured square
AVG icon, in the bottom right hand corner of your screen,
and selecting "check for updates". You should do this if the icon
is greyed out and no longer coloured. Being greyed out means that
AVG needs to be updated with the latest virus database. Under normal conditions
AVG will look after itself as far as updates and full scans go.
